Conference held in Rome to present Bills aimed at establishing a heart disease prevention programme for people over 70

Today, September 26, 2024, in the Press Room of the Chamber of Deputies, we hosted the conference “Heart Health Focus: Prevention at the Core of Patient Care“, on the occasion of World Heart Day.

The event provided an opportunity to present legislative proposals for the establishment of a diagnostic program for the prevention of heart disease in people over the age of 70 (Cardio70+ bills). Notable speeches were given by Member of the Parliament Gian Antonio Girelli (Democratic Party) and MP Dimitri Coin (League party), who emphasized the importance of active prevention to improve the early diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases and their commitment to scheduling the review of these proposals in the Social Affairs Committee as soon as possible.

During the conference, Professors Alessandro Boccanelli and Domenico Gabrielli highlighted the critical importance of early diagnosis and raising awareness of cardiovascular diseases, particularly in the elderly population. Professor Boccanelli pointed out that ageism often hinders proper diagnosis: “Symptoms are too often attributed to old age rather than being recognized as signs of potential pathology.” Professor Gabrielli reiterated that “the continuous aging of the population makes a widespread campaign of prevention and information essential“.
