The EU Structural Heart Disease Coalition is proud to have taken part in the first-ever EU Screening Week, held from 28 September to 4 October 2026. Launched by the European Commission around World Heart Day under the banner “Know Your Numbers”, the week encouraged people across Europe to get their cardiovascular health checked and to talk to a health professional about prevention.
Throughout the week, the Coalition engaged its community on LinkedIn and we worked with our members to disseminate key messages around the importance of screening for SHD across the EU, underlining why everyone aged 65 and over should get their heart checked every two years. These conditions often go undiagnosed until they are advanced, yet they can be identified early through simple health checks and treated effectively when caught in time.
The EU SHD Coalition welcomes the EU Screening Week as an important step towards a more preventive approach to cardiovascular health. We look forward to continuing our work with policymakers, clinicians, and patient advocates to ensure that structural heart disease is fully reflected in cardiovascular health checks as the EU Safe Hearts Plan is implemented across Europe.
